Stay at The Brorson Mission House
It sounds like a dream. It is a dream.

The psalmist Hans Adolph Brorson, bishop at Ribe Cathedral, wrote his famous psalms and hymns here by the Wadden Sea. The Cathedral bells pay tribute to Brorson daily, playing his beautiful hymn tune The Prettiest Rose is Found (Den yndigste Rose er funden). The bell chimes can clearly be heard in The Brorson Mission House, until recently a Home Mission place of worship named after the old bishop.

The Brorson Mission House is situated by Skibbroen near the Storm Pillar, at the end of idyllic Fiskergade. Today the house is  once again a meeting place where people enjoy music, lectures and festive gatherings: a cultural centre.

Upstairs, where the beadle, his wife and five children once lived, is a snug little apartment: completely fitted kitchen, hall, spacious living room with views of the Ribe Common across the Ribe River, a pleasant bedroom and a bathroom with shower. In all about 70m2.
For the use of our washing machine – an invaluable service for the traveller – there is a small extra charge.

The Brorson Mission House lies at the heart of Scandinavia’s oldest city, on the banks of the river the Vikings sailed down on their way to secure Dane Law in England, to trade in Normandy and to conquer Paris.

Skibbroen was once Denmark’s major western port, linking Ribe and the surrounding trading posts with the rest of the world. Many languages were spoken in Viking and Medieval Ribe. Merchants from Byzantium (Istanbul) traded with French dealers and representatives from the Roman Empire, eager to get their hands on furs and whetstone from northern Norway.

That was then. Today, languages from around the world are still heard on the streets of Ribe. So we bid you welcome in West Jutlandish, Danish, English and German.

With kindest regards,
